Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the U.S. She's been a media critic since 1995. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips featuring commentary and analysis of gender representations in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit website that focuses on gender representation in popular stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular media. In addition she aims to create awareness about online harassment targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian, who holds the degree of Master's in Political and Social thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a early age. In 2009, while in university she started her Feminist Frequency website. She was a young woman with a dream to develop the series of videos on the internet which would explore gender representations in video games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. But the assault did be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. Many awards have been presented to her in recognition of all the contributions that she made. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency as an educational non-profit that examines the ways women are depicted within media narratives.
